The meeting was called to order by Acting Mayor Schuldt. <br /> <br />1~. Agenda <br /> <br />Item 8 - Liquor Signs, Item 9 - Landfill Fees, and Item 10 - Update, were items <br />added to the March 11~ 1985 City Council agenda. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER WILLIAMS MOVED TO APPROVE THE MARCH 11, 1985 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA AS <br />AMENDED. COUNCILMEMBER ENGSTROM SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION PASSED 4-0. <br /> <br />2. Beautification Committee and Larry Morrell <br /> <br />Acting Mayor Schuldt indicated that the Beautification Committee was present to <br />discuss alternate proposals for the flagpole base. Mr. Mag Johnson, Mr. Tony Jar- <br />moluk~ and Mr. Dan Anderson were present to discuss the proposed flagpole base. <br />Mr. Dan Anderson indicated that Mr. John Bailey was also present to discuss the <br />flagpole base, as Mr. Bailey's architect had designed the plans for the flagpole <br />base. Mr. Anderson indicated that Mr. Bailey was interested in completing the base <br />of the flagpole and had indicated his intent to contribute to the cost of the flag- <br />pole base. <br /> <br />Mr. Tony Jarmoluk indicated that the Beautification Committee did not have any <br />other alternate plans other than the one proposed by Mr. Bailey's architect last <br />fall. The proposed cost and plan was reviewed by the City Council and the Beautifica- <br />tion Committee. <br /> <br />General discussion was carried on regarding the possibilities of development in the <br />downtown area. Councilmember Gunkel indicated that she was not in favor of spending <br />approximately $10~000 - $20~000 for an elaborate flagpole base when the City had <br />numerous other needs; specifically, an economic development coordinator. Council- <br />member Gunkel further indicated that she felt the proposed plan was much too elaborate <br />for the small space in the downtown area, especially when there were no plans for <br />redevelopment in the downtown. <br /> <br />Mr. Tony Jarmoluk indicated that he felt the flagpole was in the heart of the down- <br />town and it was very important that the flagpole have a base as proposed in the <br />plan. <br /> <br />General discussion was carried on regarding the cost of just the flagpole base~ <br />and eliminating the various walkways and benches as originally proposed. Mr. Bailey <br />indicated that the flagpole base along would cost approximately $6,000 - $8,000. <br /> <br />Further discussion was carried on regarding cost of the flagpole base as proposed. <br />Acting Mayor Schuldt indicated that the City Council had not budgeted any money <br />specifically for the Beautification Committee.
