<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />Minutes of Village Election <br />January 11, 1898 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />At the annual Village Election of the Village of Elk River in the County of Sherburne and State of <br />Minnesota, held at Music Hall, being the place where it was directed to be held by the Village <br />th <br />Council after given due notice thereof as provided by law, on the 11 day of January 1898. <br /> <br />L. Pollard, one of the qualified voters of said Village who had within twenty days before such time <br />been designated and appointed by the Village council to act as Judge of such Election, and N.D. <br />Trumbull, who was elected by acclamation, who being present with the Recorder at the hour of one <br />o’clock P.M., each of them duly took and subscribed an oath to faithfully discharge the duties <br />required of them at such election, and the said Judges and Clerk being duly qualified, forthwith <br />opened the polls by proclamation, and the election proceeded by ballot without adjournment or <br />intermission until closed. <br /> <br />The subjects voted on at such election as stated in the Notice thereof were: <br /> <br />To elect: one President of Common Council, three Trustees, one Recorder, one Treasurer, one <br />Justice of the Peace, one Constable. <br /> <br />At four o’clock in the afternoon of said day, the polls were closed, proclamation thereof having been <br />made by one of the Judges thirty minutes previous thereto. <br /> <br />The Judges then proceeded to publicly count and canvass the votes, and continued without <br />intermission until complete and the result declared. <br /> <br />Statement of Result of Canvass <br /> <br />The following is a true statement of the result of the counting and canvass of votes by ballot at the <br />annual Village Election of the Village of Elk River, County of Sherburne and State of Minnesota, <br />held Jan. 11, 1898, as proclaimed to the voters by one of the Judges of Election. <br /> <br />H.C. Hastings received 40 votes for Pres. of Council. <br />H.C. Hastings was declared elected Pres. of Council. <br /> <br />F.P. Brown received 40 votes for Trustee. <br />C.T. Nickerson received 40 votes for Trustee. <br />L. Pollard received 41 votes for Trustee. <br />F.P. Brown, C.T. Nickerson and L. Pollard were declared elected Trustees. <br /> <br />Andrew Davis received 40 votes for Treas. <br />Andrew Davis was declared elected Treas. <br /> <br /> <br />
