<br /> <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council 8.2 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> <br />General BusinessDecember 7, 2015RaeAnn Gardner, Communications Coordinator <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Wayfinding Master Plan Update Tina Allard, City Clerk <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Provide staff direction with regard to Wayfinding Master Plan recommendation from the Parks and <br />Recreation Commission. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />The Wayfinding Master Plan was presented to the Park and Recreation Commission on Tuesday, <br />November 17, for comments. <br /> <br />Commissioners would like to see the following changes made to the park signage: <br /> <br />1.Remove the wording Powered by Nature on the signs. <br /> <br />2.Add the words City of Elk River or city logo on the main body of the sign. <br /> <br />3.Preference is to use natural field stone as opposed to cultured stone or cut field stone. <br /> <br />4.Remove the aluminum base. Support the sign with two field stone columns, two concrete posts <br />or one of each. <br /> <br />5.Move international symbols to the main body of the sign. <br /> <br />6.Remove the blue waves element. <br /> <br />7.When not in mowed landscape, the elevation of the main body of the sign should be a minimum <br />of 42 inches. Native landscaping is preferred for most park settings. <br /> <br />8.Add address to the main body of the park sign. <br /> <br />9.Have signs made with high pressure laminate that Commission Anderson saw at the NRPA <br />Conference. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br /> <br />Design changes recommended by Council will be sent to Visual Communications for a new cost estimate. <br />The understood goal of the Wayfinding Master Plan was to create a comprehensive, all-inclusive signage <br />plan that was consistent throughout the community.
