Nar~out ~ll5~ll <br />1-Fern ~~ r(~. <br />REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ci Council <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br /> Au ust 15, 2011 Steve Benoit, Recreation Mana er <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED BY <br />Letter of Support to the City of Ramsey for their Federal Bob Thistle, Interim City <br />Funding Application of Mississippi River Trail Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Staff and the Parks and Recreation Commission recommend the City Council submit a letter of support <br />to the City of Ramsey. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />At the August 10, 2011 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, Mark Riverblood from the City of <br />Ramsey presented information regarding the Mississippi River Trail project. <br />The Mississippi River Trail offers approximately 3,000 miles of on/off-road pedestrian and bicycle <br />pathways for the recreational enjoyment, health, conservation, and tourism development of river <br />communities, river states, and the nation. The trail runs from the Mississippi headwaters in Itasca State <br />Park, through 10 states, to the Gulf of Mexico. <br />Mr. Riverblood is seeking a letter of support from the City of Elk River to accompany an application for <br />approximately 1.3 million dollars in federal funding to create a 10 foot wide trail from the Regional Park <br />in the center of Ramsey along Hwy 10 & 169, paralleling the river, to Elk River and Ramsey's shared <br />border. <br />Upon review of the request, the Parks and Recreation Commission voted unanunously to recommend <br />that the City Council provide a letter of support for the project. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />• Letter of Support <br />Action Motion by Second by Vote <br />Follow Up <br />N:\Public Bodies\City Council\Council RCA\Agenda Packet\08-15-2011 \'~IRT ADDITION TO AGENDA.docx <br />
