i <br />City of <br />Elk. <br />River <br />REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />To Item Number <br />Ci Council 3.4. <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent Ma 10, 2010 Tina Allard, Ci Clerk <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Proclamation Recognizing the Merits of Buddy Poppies <br /> Reviewed by <br />Action Requested <br />Council motion proclaiming recognition of the merits of buddy poppies. <br />Background/Discussion <br />The Elk River -Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary requested the Council adopt a proclamation <br />recognizing the merits of buddy poppies and urging all patriotic citizens to wear a buddy poppy. Poppy <br />Day is May 14, 2010. <br />The Poppy has become traditional as the Memorial Day flower and as the symbol of remembrance for <br />the men and women who have lost their lives or health in the defense of their country. The Elk River - <br />Rogers VFW #5518 Ladies Auxiliary has pledged to remind America annually of this debt through the <br />distribution of the memorial flower.
