West, Fire Chief <br /> <br />August I 0, 200 I <br /> <br />Elk River Station <br /> <br />Under the 1997 Un/form Fire Code, 3902 Fire Department Access, I would like to highlight <br />a couple of issues the Planning Department should consider that pertain to the proposed Elk <br />River Station. 9902.2.1 Required Access for a Fire Apparatus Access Road states, <br /> <br />fire apparatus access roads shall be provided in accordance w/th 9901 <br />and 3902.2 for every facility, building or portion of a building here- <br />after constructed into or within the jurisdiction when any portion of <br />the facility or any portion of an exterior wall of the first story of the <br />building is located more than .150' from fire apparatus access as mea- <br />sured by an approved route around the exterior Of the building or <br />fac/i/ty. See also 2902.3 for Personnel Access to Buildings. <br /> <br />Under [902.2.2 Specification for Fire Department Access Roads, ~902.2.2.1 Dimensions <br />StartS, <br /> <br />fire apparatus access road shall have an unobstructed width of not <br />less than 20' and an unobstructed verdcal clearance of not less than <br />13'.6". <br /> <br />Also rake into consideration 9901.4~2 Fire Apparatus Access Roads as stated, <br /> <br />when required by the Chief approved signs or other approved nodces <br />shall be provided and maintained for fire apparatus access roads to <br />identify such roads and prohibit the obstruction thereof or both. <br /> <br /> <br />
