Planting of native grasses shall be by means of Truax drill or approved equal. Planting of <br />native wildflower seeds shall be by broadcast and raked in. Any species listed that are <br />not possible to be established by means of seeding shall be planted as plugs at the time of <br />seeding and in the proportions listed. Seeding rate of the native grass mix shall be 15.0 <br />lbs per acre. Seeding rate of the wildflower mix shall be 4.35 lbs per acre. Seed will be <br />paid per pound per type of mix. Seeding of native grasses will be paid per acre seeded. <br />Seeding of native wildflowers will be paid per Square Yard of area seeded. <br />Seeded areas shall be covered by erosion control blanket (category 1) per MnDot spec <br />3885. The contractor will be paid per Square Yard of erosion control blanket installed. <br />A cover crop of oats shall be planted along with the native seeding to aid in establishing <br />the native seeds and prevent erosion. Seeding of the cover crop shall be at 25 lbs per <br />acre. Payment for this cover crop shall be based on acres covered and shall be payment <br />for materials and work needed to add the cover crop to the native seeding. <br />Perennial end cap plantings shall include a combination of the following plant materials: <br />Echinacea'Ruby Star' (Coneflower) <br />Schizachyrium (Little Blue Stem) <br />Nepeta 'Kit Cat' (Catmint) <br />Rudbeckia'Goldstrum' (Black Eyed Susan) <br />All plants shall be one gallon size. <br />Placement of these plant materials is anticipated to be similar to the plantings in place on <br />the end caps on Orono Parkway near city hall in Elk River. The End caps are anticipated <br />to cover approximately a 16' x 16' area at the ends of the medians. The plant material <br />shall be nursery stock potted plants and arranged as follows: <br />Two rows of little blue stem as a separating line (blue). <br />Outer ring is nepeta (white), middle is rudbeckia (yellow), and inner area is <br />echinacea (green). <br />The density of these plantings shall be submitted along with the proposal. The <br />entire area of the end cap planting shall be covered with Cypress mulch to a depth <br />of 4 inches. <br />The Perennial end caps will be paid based on total square foot of area covered by <br />perennial plantings. <br />
