Request for Proposals - 193rd Avenue Median Restoration Elk River, MN <br />(Revised 4120110) -all revisions shown in Red <br />Introduction <br />The City of Elk River recently constructed the extension of 193rd Avenue from Xavier <br />Street to County Road 13. Along with this construction new medians were built. The <br />City is in the process of backfilling the medians with topsoil suitable for native plants. <br />The City is requesting a proposal to complete the restoration of the medians with native <br />plantings. The scope of the restoration work is outlined below. In addition to cost the <br />City is interested in your firm's qualifications for completing the project. The selection <br />of the contractor for this work will based on a combination of factors including cost <br />(25%) and qualifications to complete the work (75%). Your proposal should be submitted <br />to John Anderson, City of Elk River 13065 Orono Parkway Elk River MN 55330 by 4:00 <br />PM Apri126, 2010 <br />Work by others <br />Preparation of the site will be completed by the City's street division. The preparation <br />work by the street division will include the following: <br />a. The area to be planted will be backfllled with topsoil blended for this <br />application. The material used for topsoil will consist of a blend of soil <br />specially formulated for this planting including 70% course sand, 15% <br />ground compost and 15% peat <br />b. The topsoil will be placed on top of the existing sub grade which will be <br />tilled or ripped to a depth of 12 inches. <br />c. The top soil will be treated with a herbicide two times to eliminate weed <br />species prior to planting. <br />d. The areas where the perennial end caps are to be planted will be backfilled <br />with 12 inches of black loam topsoil. <br />Project Scope <br />The project involves establishing native plantings in the four medians along 193rd Avenue <br />with perennial end cap plantings. The native plantings will involve a combination of <br />native grasses and wildflowers. The native grasses will cover 100% of the medians and <br />the native wildflowers will cover 30%. The specific layout will be determined at the time <br />of planting. In addition to the initial installation the contractor will be required to provide <br />maintenance of the plantings for three years. <br />
