~lk Ri <br />Introdr~ction <br />FRAM: William Rubin, Economic Developme ,^ <br />Coordinator Y~,, <br />DATE: September 18, 1995 <br />SUBJECT: Proclamation for Manufacturer's Week <br />In recognition of the important contributions manufacturing companies make <br />to Minnesota's economy, Honorable Governor Arne Carlson has proclaimed <br />the week of October 16 as Manufacturer's Week. <br />Background <br />Specific contributions include: <br />• Manufacturer's employ nearly one in every five off farm workers in <br />Minnesota, or about 405,000 people. <br />**ITEM 5.11.** <br />MEMORANDUM <br />V~~ TO: Mayor & City Council <br />• The average manufacturing. employee in Minnesota earns more <br />than $33,000 per year, which is 3:0 percent higher than the average <br />wage for all Minnesota employees. <br />• Manufacturers produce $22.9 billion worth of goods for Minnesota's <br />economy, contributing 21 percent of the overall total, the largest <br />single share of the gross state product. <br />• Manufacturing exports brought $7.3 billion into Minnesota in 1994. <br />• Corporate income taxes paid by manufacturing companies <br />contribute more than $141 million to the state, nearly one third of <br />Minnesota's total corporate income tax revenues. <br />For Sherburne County in 1993, total manufacturing wages paid was <br />estimated at $45..1 million. An estimated 78 manufacturing plants in the <br />county employed 1,516 persons for an average of nearly 20 employees per <br />facility. <br />13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
