Cty of Elk Rive MEMORANDUM ~ch~~ c hers®~, ir~c~r ~' ~~n~~ ~.~~ roc ~~, ~r~ ~ # ~~~ , asr a ~~r n~~ I would like to address a couple of issues discussed at a prior Planning Comn~issian meeting in reference to the T~ostreba Self Storage Units on Jarvis Street in Ells River. Under the ~ 997 Uniform Fire Code Section 9D2 Fire Department Access it states, fire apparatus access road shall be provided in accordance with Sections 9D~ & 902.2 for every facility, building, or portion of a building hereafter cons~.~ucted or moved into or within the jurisdiction. Under Section 902.2.2.1 it states that fire apparatus access road shall ha~re an unobstructed width of not less than 20 feet, an unobstructed vertical clearance of not less than i3 feet G inches, The fire apparatus access road shall be maintained to its unobstt.-ucted width of not less than 2D feet on a continual basis thrQUghout the entire year, "No parking" fire lane approved signs shall be provided and maintained for frxe apparatus access roads to identify such roads and prohibit the obstruction thereof. Under Section 9D2.2,2.2, Surface, frre apparatus access roads shall be designed and maintained to support the imposed loads of frre apparatus and shall be provided with a surface so as to provide all weather driving capabilities. Section 9D2,2.4.1. states the required width of fire apparatus access roads shall not be obstructed in any manner, including parl~.ing of vehicles. I have discussed with tlae awn.er the number, location, and size of frre extinguishers xo be provided at the proposed self storage u~~.ts. The placement, number, and fire extinguisher size shall be approved by the Elk liver Fire Department, Discussion between the City of Elk River ~3uilding and ~oning Department and floe Elk ~tiver Fire Department has taken place in reference to storage of vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and other items contai~.g flam~aable liquids within the I~ostreba Self Storage Facility.
