She indicated <br />Terry Maurer would be interviewed at ~a~0 p.~x~~ ,~ ~~~q~e~tteson at 7:DO p.m. <br />The Council intervie~~7ed Ferry Maurer, <br />The Council inteF~~~ved L~~~ Qtteson. <br />.t <br />The Council recess ~ ~~~ ~e~.. ~~ ~~n~rened at 8:27 p.m. <br />Ma~T~ ~~~~ ~d~.cated ~~~ felt Mr, Maurer's technical expertise as an engineer has been <br />gd for the Ci~~ ~ ~~~ had erns about his ability to supervise the employees in the <br />~~ sions o~ the pub. works u~.~rella. <br />Y~ <br />~~.cilmember We~aard stated he felt the position needs to be Filled with someone who <br />is ~t ply technica~~,~ skilled but also someone who can manage people. <br />Counciile~~:~ ~~rwas felt Mr. Maurer effectively united several City divisions during <br />tough econ~.c times and felt he did what the Council asked him to do. <br />Councilmember Moon stated Mr. Maurer provides a lot of history to the City since he's <br />been a consultant for more than 30 years but he has a problem with Mr. Maurer's <br />performance. He leas heard from some employees concerned with the decision to hire him <br />as their public works director. He has also fielded complaints from residents and others <br />regarding road and intersection design problems. <br />Councilmember Gumphrey stated both candidates would be great but the City would be <br />wrong in not hiring Mr. Maurer as he has done an good job as City engineer, even though he <br />felt he was somewhat cut and dried in his approach. <br />
