ci® eu~s~~
Adoption of the attached resolution supporting and agreeing to maintain the Babcock Trail Phase
II Enhancement Project, This resolution is necessary for submittal with the SAFETEA-LU grant
application.
~~k ~~~~dC p~CU~~a~n
I have been worl~ing with Parks and Recreation Director Bill Maertz regarding aSAFETEA-LU
enhancement grant application for construction of Babcock Trail Phase IT from the existing txail
near the intersection of Main Street and Parrish Avenue down to Babcock Parl~. Curxently,
MnD4T is soliciting candidate projects for fiscal year FY 204 State Transportation
improvement Program ~STIP}.
Bill and his staff have already submitted a grant application to the Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources for a legacy grant to help fund this project.
_inanci~ ~r~ac
SAFETEA-LU federal transportation grants can fund a maximum. of 80 percent of the
construction costs far an eligible project. A minimum of 20 percent must come from the local
agency. Because the Parks and Recreation Department has requested a DNR legacy grant, we are
recommending that the SAFETEA~LU grant application only request $400,000 - $500,000 for an
approximately X1.2 ntillion construction project, ~1'e believe this will make our grant application
fnuch stronger by showing a larger commitment from the local agency in providing a bigger
project for a smaller federal grant, if we receive bath the federal grant and the legacy grant,
approximately 80 percent of the project would be funded by grant dollars.
t~chrr~~nts
~ Resolution Supporting and Agreeing to Maintain Babcock Trail Phase 71 Enhancement Project
Ct~n Motion by Second by Vote
~~w
