It will allow employees and <br />commerce to move more freely while <br />protecting the qualities that make each <br />community unique. Commuter rail will give <br />residents a safe, convenient, reliable, <br />on-time transportation option. <br /> <br />Commuter rail is a realistic option. <br />Preliminary engineering and an <br />environmental impact statement are well <br />underway, and will be completed by summer. <br />The first commuters are expected to ride <br />the train by late 2004 and there are expected <br />to be more than 9,300 trips daily. <br />Minnesota's top public officials, including <br /> <br />US169 Governor Ventura, 8th District <br /> <br /> Representative James Oberstar and <br /> others are behind the <br /> Northstar Corridor <br />Rarnsey/Anoka commuter rail project <br /> and have helped <br /> , Coon Ra~i~s secure initial federal <br /> funds for planning. <br /> <br />Fridley <br /> <br />"The BNSF <br />has been a <br />solid partner <br />on the <br />Northstar <br />project and <br />has a significant record of <br />achievement with commuter <br />rail across the country.
