To be valid, the city <br />must publish at least a summary of the ordinance in the official newspaper of <br />the city. <br />• BACKGROUND <br />If the City Council determines that publication of the title and a summary of <br />an ordinance would clearly inform the public of the intent and effect of the <br />ordinance, it may, by four-fifths vote, direct publication of only the title of the <br />ordinance and a summary. The publication must include a notice that a <br />printed copy of the ordinance is available for inspection at the office of the <br />City Clerk. <br />Due to the length of the recent adoption of the amended subdivision <br />ordinance, staff is suggesting publishing a summary of Ordinance 95-15. <br />ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Council motion adopting the attached Resolution approving notice of <br />summary publication of Ordinance 95-15. <br />s:\council\summemo. doc <br />• <br />13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
