~~ ~`)
'^ ( **ITEM
( `~
ity of ~ MEMORANDUM
River TO: Mayor & City Council
lk •
FROM: Pat Klaers, City inistrator
DATE: July 31, 1995
SUBJECT: Equipment Purchases
City staff is in the process of preparing the 1996 budget proposal for
consideration by the City Council. During a meeting with Phil Hals, Lori
Johnson, and myself, it became apparent that a number of smaller
equipment purchases should take place now and these items should be
financed with the street and park equipment reserves. The following
purchases are recommended to the City Council:
• Power gate opener -approx. $2,150 -desired for safety and ease of
opening and closing the public works building yard gate.
• • Tracks for the skid loader -approx. $2,150 -makes the skid loader
usable on soft ground and slopes (the city currently rents tracks for
$400 per week).
• Gas card system upgrade -approx. $3,750 -provides better and
faster accounting of fuel use and allow for data back up (the City
lost its data when the system was struck by lightning last month.
This made billings to the County and School District for their fuel
usage difficult.)
The power gate opener and gas card system are proposed to come from the
street equipment reserve. The skid loader expense will come from the parks
equipment reserve. The street equipment reserve fund has a balance in
excess of $150,000 and the parks equipment reserve fund has a balance in
excess of $50,000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the purchase of the above
three items with funding coming from the identified equipment reserves.
council:egptpurch
•
8.2.**
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
