ity of

iver

ITEH 10.1.

MEMORANDUM

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor & City Council

Pat Klaers, City Adminis~rr

December 16, 1996

Council Meeting Schedule

A number of items need to be taken care of at this meeting regarding the City
Council schedule. First, the City Council should consider canceling the
fourth Monday of December meeting (December 23, 1996) as staff believes we
can take care of all of the year end activities at the December 16, 1996,
meeting. Unless the council wants to meet two days before Christmas, a
motion should be made canceling this December 23, 1996, regular City
Council meeting.

The third Monday of February, 1997, is a holiday and we will soon be
publishing public hearing notices for the planning issues to be reviewed at
the February council meeting. It is recommended that the City Council call a
special meeting for the third Tuesday of February (February 18) to deal with
the regular council business that is typically conducted on the third Monday
of each month. The council should note that this action has already been
taken for the third Monday in January, and that the council has called a
special meeting for Tuesday, January 21, 1997.

An EDA worksession has been scheduled prior to the City Council meeting on
January 6, 1997. The council has scheduled interviews for all the vacancies
on the city's boards and commissions for their January 6th meeting. A large
number of residents have applied for these vacancies and it is anticipated
that the interviews will take about two hours. Following the interviews, the
agenda calls for the 1996 annual report from Utilities General Manager
Bryan Adams and this could take anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes. The
interviews and annual report are in addition to the normal business that
needs to be addressed. The question before the council at this meeting is if
they would like to call their City Council meeting on January 6, 1997, for 7
p.m. instead of the regularly scheduled 6 p.m. As the EDA discussed on
December 9, 1996, it may take them 3 hours to work through their economic
development issues and they were hopeful that the meeting could be held
from 4 to 7 p.m. rather than 3 to 6 p.m., or rather than trying to condense 3
hours of work into 2 hours from 4 to 6 p.m. Hopefully Councilmembers that

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
