ITEM 8. .ty of iver MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor & City Council FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: Pat Klaers, City Administ4cp. gbr ~ ~7~1~ ~~ November 25, 1996 ~~)~ Budget Worksession A worksession of the City Council to discuss the proposed 1997 budget and tax levy and to review miscellaneous budget related issues has been scheduled for Monday, November 25, 1996. One of the major purposes of this worksession is to produce a balanced budget that can be presented to the public at the Truth and Taxation public hearing which is scheduled for December 2, 1996. This Truth in Taxation (budget and tax levy) public hearing is also scheduled to be continued until December 16, 1996, if necessary. Please note that the City Council cannot adopt the municipal budget and tax levy resolution at the same meeting when a public hearing is held. Accordingly, if the public hearing on December 2 is continued until December 16 in order to receive additional input from the public, then the city budget and tax levy will have to be considered and adopted at a special meeting later in the week of December 16 or on December 23, 1996. On the other hand, if the December 2 public hearing is not continued, then the city budget and tax levy will be considered for adoption at the December 16, 1996, meeting. The agenda for this budget worksession on 11/25/96 looks something like the following: Consider steps to close the 1997 General Fund Budget gap and discuss the proposed 1997 tax rate, personal services, equipment, and other items related to the budget. 2. Review and consider the non General Fund 1997 budgets. 3. Consider the 1997 pay resolution for non organized employees. 4. Update on personnel projects. Consider two CIP projects...the city contribution to the ice arena construction project and the city funding of the recreation fields on the Cass property. 13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
