Economic Development Authority Minutes Page 2 <br />March 9, 2009 <br />• Consider ways to encourage prospective tenants to choose Elk River <br />• Retain/maintain the businesses we have <br />Ms. Mehelich noted that she believes the Comrnittee would rate retaining /maintaining <br />current businesses as the priority. <br />It was the consensus of the EDA to include the EDA Marketing Committee's <br />recommendations as outlined in the staff report as part of the Strategic Plan discussion next <br />month. <br />6. Consider 2009 — 2010 Business Retention and Expansion Program <br />Ms. Deckert presented the staff report. She stated that there are approximately 50 <br />manufacturing firms in Elk River and staff is recommending visits to all of them She <br />indicated that staff's goal is to complete all visits within a two year timeframe by conducting <br />two or three visits per month. <br />It was the consensus of the EDA to continue the business retention visits because they are <br />informative and interesting both for local businesses as well as staff. Ms. Deckert asked each <br />Commissioner to let her know which firths they are interested in visiting. <br />7. Consider Proposal from Cincinnatus, Inc. for Update of the Economic Development <br />Strategic Planning <br />Ms. Mehelich presented the staff report. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER TVEITE AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER TOUCHETTE TO DIRECT STAFF TO EXECUTE A <br />CONTRACT WITH CINCINNATUS, INC. FOR AN UPDATE OF THE <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN AND TO MEET JOINTLY <br />WITH THE HRA AND THE CITY COUNCIL AT 5:30 P.M. ON APRIL 13, 2009. <br />MOTION CARRIED 7 -0. <br />Ms. Mehelich noted that the proposal includes telephone interviews between Mr. Eklund <br />and all EDA Commissioners. She stated that these interviews are scheduled for the first part <br />of April and asked Commissioners to let her know if they have conflicts. <br />8. Other Business <br />Commissioner Mot *in stated that he has been informed that the new Post Office retail <br />location near the former Target building is scheduled to open April 11 or 18. Ms. Mehelich <br />indicated those dates are consistent with what staff has been told by the Building <br />Department. <br />9.
