Mallinckrodt, the world's largest producer
of acetaminophen, the active ingredient in many
headache remedies, recognized the opportunity to
team with its neighbor to the west, the North Wake
Solid Waste Landfill.
The project's highlights include:
• Generates clean, renewable energy.
Prevents greenhouse gas emissions.
• Generates awareness and demand for renewable energy.
DTE Biomass Energy owns, operates, and maintains the boiler and Mallinckrodt purchases
steam over a 15-20 year contract at a negotiated price. With a successful relationship
already established, Mallinckrodt converted one of its existing natural gas-fired boilers to
combust a mixture of LFG and natural gas in 2006, increasing LFG usage to approximately
1,250 scfm.
Last Updated: 8/18/2008

http://www. epa.gov/landfill/proj /prof/profile/mallinckrodtincgasenergyp.htm
6/8/2009
~.
~.
~.
._ ti.
