The project will add about 70
parking spaces downtown and is expected to be completed
in early July. Construction will then begin on the Jackson
Place development. Once the U.S. Bank build-
ing is vacated and demolished this fall, con-
struction will begin on
The Bluffs of Elk River
development. Both
developments are
expected to be com- °.
pleted by the end o
of 2006. The City's ~,
Housing and E
Redevelopment Authority
(HRA) and MetroPlains
Development have been
planning this project over
the last several years.
Can you tell me
more about the King Avenue parking lot
improvement project?
Improvements to the King Avenue parking lot will add about
70 spaces for downtown customers, visitors and employees
when redevelopment begins this summer. In addition to the
removal of the former Municipal Utilities building, the project
will involve the permanent closure of the King Avenue
access to Highway 10. Half of the King Avenue parking lot
will remain open for parking throughout reconstruction. The
schedule calls for the parking lot to be substantially complet-
ed in early July. While construction of the lot is taking place,
parking is also available in the Jackson Square parking lot or
in the lots across Highway 10. On-street parking is also avail-
able where appropriately signed.
Will the parking lot improvement project impede
traffic downtown and make it more difficult to
get around?
No. The only change in traffic flow is the closure of the King
Avenue access to Highway 10. With that exception, traffic will
flow normally.
Q. What are the details
of the Jackson Place
and The Bluffs of Elk
River developments?
A.
