Elk River
Municipal U
13069 Orono Parkway
Elk River, MN 55330
June 6, 2005
To: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission
Jerry Takle
John Dietz
Jim Tralle
From: Bryan Adams
Subject: Otsego Growth
phone: 763.441.2020
Fax: 763.441.8099
At the May Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission meeting, we initially discussed the
electric growth potential in Otsego. We were exploring two options to serve the long
term electrical needs which were as follows.
1) Build a feed from Station 14 (at Great River Energy) paralleling Hwy 169 and
Hwy 101 to Co. Rd. 39. Estimated costs are in the $300,000 range.
2) Utilize the Otsego Substation at approximate cost of $220,000.
See the attached colored aerial view of Otsego with colors indicating:
yellow -existing lines
red -proposed lines to bypass Co. Rd. 39 & 42 and Hwy 101 intersection
construction
blue -new feeder to be built to solve long term electric growth needs
We are currently arranging a meeting with MNDOT to discuss these options and
proposed construction.
Also attached is a preliminary plan reflecting the possible additions to the Otsego
substation to accommodate this load growth. Because the substation option is more
economical and an easier process, this is the option staff is recommending. I am
currently dealing with the City of Otsego on identifying what permits and requirements
are necessary to allow expansion of this substation.
ities
