Project Status
December 29, 2004
Page 4
gravel and lower the roadway, along with the relocation of the small utilities. It is
anticipated that some time in 2006, the mining operation will be complete and
the new roadbed will be established by the mining operation. Sherburne County
has received a Federal grant for the paving of the roadway and it is believed that
the project will extend west of the railroad tracks along the existing County Road
33 alignment to CSAH 1.
CSAH 1 Reconstruction
Sherburne County is currently working on plans for the reconstruction of
County Road 1 from County Road 32 to the north City limits. As explained to
the City, this project will involve some minor vertical alignment corrections,
along with the reconstruction of a two-lane roadway. It is anticipated that this
project will begin construction in late 2005 or the 2006 season.
County Road 44~Meadowvale Road) Reconstruction -Sherburne County has
had the reconstruction of County Road 44 on their Capital Improvements
Program for the past few years. It was originally intended to part of the projects
that the County bonded for. However, the bond funds were fully used before
the County got to this project. As we understand it, this project is now high on
their project list, but a funding source has not been fully identified as of yet. It is
anticipated once the discussion between the City and the County regarding the
turn-back of County Road 40 is complete, that County Road 44 will likely be a
candidate for discussion of turn-back options with the City potentially taking the
lead on the reconstruction of the roadway.
D. Miscellaneous Projects
TH 169 Geometric and Environmental Study
The City has been working with MnDOT for the past 12 months to take the TH
169 Inter Regional Corridor Study to the next level, which would include
geometric layouts and environmental documentation. MnDOT has planned for
a corridor study along TH 169 from Elk River to Princeton. We anticipate
sometime in the first quarter of 2005 they will start a consultant search to
accomplish this project.
TH 10 Alternative Anal~is in the Downtown Area
The City has been discussing the potential of trying to get High Priority Project
monies from our congressional delegation through the re-authorization of the
Transportation Act to perform some further alternative analysis relative to the
TH 10 Inter Regional Corridor Study through the downtown area. As you are
aware, the IRC Study called for the TH 10 to be elevated approximately 20 feet
above the downtown area. The City passed a resolution at the end of the IRC
Study, agreeing with the vision of the Study, but questioning several things, most
importantly, the plan to raise the highway in the downtown area.
• Comprehensive Transportation Plan Implementation
In November of 2004 at a workshop, the City Council discussed the
implementation of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan. At the point, the
S:\EngineerImprovProj\2005 Improvement Projects\12 29 04 CC memo 2005 projeas.doc
