Park & Recreation Commission Minutes <br />May 10, 2006 <br />Page 4 <br />8.3.B. Park Name for Barsody purchase • <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared potential names such at Alba Ridge <br />Park, Diamond Park, Pioneer Park, Brookview Park, Sunset Park and Northern Lights Park; <br />for the new park name. Staff is ordering new park entrance signs and needs a name for the <br />property. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER NYSTROM AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER ANDERSON TO RECOMMEND TO COUNCIL THE NAME <br />ALBA RIDGE PARK. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br />8.3.C. Trail Plan Update and Revision <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared updates and revisions to the trail plan. <br />Commissioner Niziolek stated he is concerned about the legality of putting trails next to <br />ditches on the eastern half of the city. Not knowing what the future holds there are a <br />significant amount of trails planned and would not want to see it not happen because of <br />poor planning. <br />Mr. Maertz stated that staff can take a look at what other counties and cities are doing in the <br />area however City Council would like an updated plan to work with when making decisions <br />regarding future development. <br />Commissioner Anderson asked if there would be any harm in leaving the plan as is regarding • <br />the County Road 1 trail and if it can be changed in the future when needed. <br />Commissioner Niziolek stated concern over there needing to be a pedestrian crossing near <br />the gravel pit area and would like to see a snap shot plan of what surrounding communities <br />are doing and how we connect to them. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER ANDERSON AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER PETERSON TO ACCEPT THE UPDATED TRAIL PLAN <br />CONTINGENT UPON SUGGESTED CHANGES BEING INCORPORATED <br />INTO PLAN. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br />8.4.A. Discussion Items -Dog Regulations: Education and Enforcement <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz asked the commission members for ideas on <br />how to educate and enforce the cities dog regulations. <br />Commissioner Anderson stated he had been approached by concerned citizens asking for <br />additional signage and educational enforcement regarding dog regulations. <br />Chair Polston-Rork suggested putting the information in the city newsletter to refresh <br />peoples memories about the regulations. <br />Mr. Maertz stated he would have it put in the cities newsletter and the Parks and Recreation <br />Program Guide. <br />
