Park & Recreation Commission Minutes page 2D <br />July 9, coos <br />5. Open Mike • <br />Elk River resident, Bruce Dryden; 19323 Oakland Elk River asked how much work <br />the volunteer group can do in the park for the archery range. They would like to put <br />in trails to the range and add 3D targets. <br />Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Maertz asked for a detailed plan to be able to see <br />how it may fit into the Parks Improvement Plan. <br />6. Recreation Manager's Report -Steve Benoit <br />Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared items of interest including the Bike Safety <br />Rodeo, Safety Camp, and Kidstock. <br />• Bike Safety was co-sponsored by Elk River Safe Schools Committee, Elk River <br />Police, Sherburne County Public Health, Ramsey Bicycle and Parks & Recreation <br />• Safety Camp had 80 participants this year. <br />• Every Thursday morning, a variety of music and educational events named <br />Kidstock are held at the Band Shell at Lions Park. The events are free with an <br />average of 250 children and parents. <br />Mr. Benoit shared the Senior Center Coordinator's staff report. • <br />7. Director's Report -Bill Maertz <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared that the City of Elk River was <br />selected to receive a $70,000 grant from the DNR for the Great Northern Trail.. <br />Trail completion is estimated at $300,000 with $160,000 previously secured in <br />Federal funding. Discussion followed on how payments are made, timelines and <br />deadlines. <br />Mr. Maertz shared that a "Blues and Barbecue" event was held at River's Edge <br />Commons with approximately 1000 people in attendance June 19~' as part of the <br />Riverfront Concert Series. <br />Mr. Maertz stated that Kidstock has been drawing approximately 250 people on <br />Thursday mornings at Lions Park. <br />Action/Discussion Items <br />8.1. Froehlichs Happy Corner <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared an administrative subdivision <br />request regarding Froehlichs Happy Corner. Staff recommends that park dedication <br />be paid in the form of cash for one (1) lot at the. rate applicable a the time of Final • <br />
