Economic Development Authority Minutes <br />May 12, 2008 <br />Page 2 <br />Commissioner Motin stated that Earl Hohlen informed him of his plans for amulti-tenant <br />development near Anytime Fitness. Ms. Mehelich indicated that staff is aware that amulti- <br />tenant building is being planned but tenants have not yet been identified. <br />6. Consider Retail Trade Analysis Report and Workshop <br />Ms. Deckert presented the staff report. Ms. Deckert noted that by entering into the <br />contract, the City would have the ability to purchase report updates annually. <br />Ms. Deckert stated that the workshop can be held in a format agreeable by the EDA. She <br />questioned what format the EDA would like. <br />Commissioner Tveite stated that there are so many positives to entering into this contract. <br />He stated that one is that it shows that Elk River is serious about attracting development. He <br />liked the idea of partnering with the Chamber for the workshop, possibly including small <br />business owners. President Gongoll indicated the River's Edge Group should be included in <br />the workshop as well as the HRA, and possibly the Chamber. Commissioner Motin <br />questioned the usefulness of the historical data and whether or not it accounts for growth. <br />Ms. Deckert explained the report can be customized to fit the City's needs and that it does <br />account for growth. Commissioner Klinzing stated the workshop is a good idea but she <br />believes the data should be reviewed prior to deciding in what format it should be presented. <br />Commissioners Dwyer and Zerwas concurred that the data will be a useful tool. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER TVEITE AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER ZERWAS TO AUTHORIZE STAFF TO ENTER INTO A <br />CONTRACT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA EXTENSION <br />SERVICE TO CONDUCT A RETAIL TRADE ANALYSIS REPORT (RTA) AND <br />HOLD A WORKSHOP. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br />Other Business <br />President Gongoll explained that he has submitted his resignation to the Economic <br />Development Authority effective immediately because he has accepted the Community <br />Development Director position with the City of Elk River. He thanked the EDA and stated <br />he is looking forward to working with them as a staff member. <br />Vice President Pat Dwyer will take over as EDA President. <br />Commissioner Klinzing noted there is a vacanry on the EDA and she will bring a name <br />forward to the Ciry Council soon. <br />8.
