Renewables <br />• The CapX 2020 projects are a major step in meeting the state of Minnesota's 25 x 25 <br />renewable energy standard <br />• In addition to increased electric reliability, CapX 2020 will benefit Minnesota and the <br />surrounding region by expanding the generation outlet for wind energy, particularly in <br />southern and southwestern Minnesota and the Dakotas. <br />• The locations of CapX 2020 proposed transmission lines capitalize on the consistent and <br />strong winds in southern and southwestern Minnesota, enabling the delivery of wind <br />energy throughout the state. <br />• As part of Minnesota's new renewable energy standard utilities are required to examine <br />in a five year action plan how to develop the transmission upgrades needed to support <br />the 25 x 25 mandate <br />• Under Minnesota's renewable energy standard CapX2020 partner Xcel Energy is <br />required to have 30 percent of its retail sales from renewables by 2020, with 25 percent <br />of the total to be from wind. <br />7/19/07 <br />
