Park & Recreation Commission l~linutes Page 2^ <br />December 10, 2008 <br />• Commissioner Anderson will attend the January 13, 2009 Planning <br />Commission Meeting. <br />5. Open Mike -None <br />-r- <br />6. Recreation Manager's Report -Steve Benoit <br />Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared one of our new programs currently being <br />offered, Mom's Time Out; has been a great success. Parents can drop off their <br />children in a safe and fun environment while they run errands meet a friend for <br />coffee. <br />Mr. Benoit shared that staff is working on incorporating cell phone texting as a new <br />method of marketing. This tool would allow participants to sign up to receive text <br />messages regarding program information and updates. <br />Mr. Benoit shared the Senior Center Coordinator's and the Ice Arena Manager's staff <br />reports. <br />Director's Report -Bill Maertz <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz shared that the Rotary Club <br />• sponsored, River Walk project is complete and thanked the club for their <br />participation in the project and reminded everyone to attend the annual Taste of Elk <br />River event held in May. <br />Mr. Maertz shared that the Activity Center celebrated its first year of operation on <br />December 3`d. Attendance started out strong and has grown steadily reaching an <br />average attendance of 68 per day in November. <br />Mr. Maertz stated that the Great Northern Trail paving project is on schedule for <br />construction in the summer 2009. <br />8.1. Information/Discussion Items <br />8. Park/Trail Developments <br />8.1.A. YAC Parking Lot & Field Expansion <br />Director of Parks and Recreation, Bill Maertz presented information regarding the <br />existing BMX track at YAC and requested commission feedback. <br />Planner/Park Planner, Chris Leeseberg shared three options for adding a parking lot <br />and field expansion at the Youth Athletic Complex. All the options had a <br />playground between the softball fields and soccer fields with a trail for access. <br />• <br />
