'I1~ere are a few notes regarding these statistics which should be highlighted: <br />The large increase in 1975 can be explained by the completion of the current facility. <br />Call-in renewals of checked out materials has not been allowed since 1983. At that time there was also <br />an increase in the allowable check-out period from 2 to 3 weeks and renewals were no longer an <br />option. <br />Some non-print materials (long play records, 16mm films, etc.) have and will decline in demand and <br />availability. <br />Most of the recent increase in circulation has occurred in the adult services but the staff has seen some <br />increase in juvenile services. <br />Since 1985, there has been a significant increase in the non-print materials circulation and a higher <br />percentage of users who are utilizing the library's information, resources, or site, instead of checking <br />out materials. <br />AREA SERVED BY ELK ~7-TVER LIBRARY <br />The Elk River facility current]}'serves the Ciry of Elk River and portions of the abutting townships. This <br />service area ea-tends north to Zimmerman; east only into the western edge of Ramsey; south to include <br />only the north half of Otsego; and west toward Big Lake only to just beyond the Elk River city limit. <br />This service area is defined by the service areas of the library facilities located in Princeton, Saint <br />Francis, Big Lake, Monticello, St Michael, Rogers, Maple Grove, Osseo, Anoka and Champlin. The <br />circulation records and user habits over the past few years were discussed with the library staff and <br />confirmed this borrowing pattern. The population served is approximately 17,000 of which nearly 70% <br />reside within the Elk River city limits. <br />6 <br />
