Community Statistics & Population <br />Brief Area Background <br />Elk River is located in Sherburne County, Minnesota. When settled in 1846, Elk <br />River was sighted to be a great resource for hydropower, gravel mining, lumber & <br />agriculture. In 1997, Elk River was named "Energy City" because of its <br />"demonstration in cutting edge renewable energy & energy efficient technology". <br />Current Population: 23,000 <br />Current Households: 5,800 <br />Projected Population Range 2025: 30,000 - 45,000 <br />2005 Sherburne County Per Capita Income - $27,530 <br />V. System Description <br />General <br />The ERMU water system operates eight wells, six of which run through iron & <br />manganese filtrations. There are four elevated storage tanks which serve our system <br />of over 4,508 customer connections. The 2008 average water use was 2,330,000 gpd <br />with the max water use of 5,394,000 gpd. <br />
