~j
Elk River .i
Municipal Utilities
13069 Orono Parkway • P.O. Box 430
Elk River, MN 55330-0430
May 8, 2008
To: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission
Jerry Takle
Jerry Gumphrey
John Dietz
From: Bryan Adams
Subject: Miscellaneous Issues
Phone: 763.441.2020
Fax: 763.441.8099
Enclosed is the packet for the Tuesday, May 13, 2008, commission meeting at 4:00 p.m.
Vdater and electric usage to date remain well above last year at 11.6% and 9.9% respectively.
The pump house for Well #9 and the 4th Street Water Main projects are both well underway.
When we take delivery of the necessary electric cable, the Brentwood cable replacement project
will begin.
Enclosed is the following information for your review:
A) News article title titled "Utilities Are Still Top Taxpayers in County" from the Apri126,
2008, edition of the West Sherburne Tribune.
B) Text of President's Bush's speech on climate change.
C) Professor Richard Lindzen, an atmospheric physicist, thoughts on global warming.
D) Utilities Executive Study by Capgemini addressing critical industry issues of
environment, regulation, workforce management, and new technology.
E) The adjoining electric utilities all raised rates this winter or spring. The attached spread
sheets reflect how we compare to Connexus, Xcel, Wright-Hennepin, and City of Anoka.
This continues to show we are competitive with the residential and commercial customers
but we continue to have a lot of work to do with the demand class customers.
F) Article titled "Report Raised Concerns About Pharmaceuticals in the Environment" from
Apri12008 Waterworld.
