The uppermost bedrock unit in the vicinity of Elk River is shown on Figure 3. The Mt. Simon- <br />Hinckley Formations and the Eau Claire Formation are the uppermost bedrock [.[nits over most of Elk <br />River. the Ironton-Galesville Sandtone is the uppermost bedrock in the southeast corner of Elk River. <br />Approximately 4 miles west, near Big Lake, the uppermost bedrock unit is Precambrian Crystalline <br />rocks, which marks the western edge of the Hollandale Embayment. <br />The depth to bedrock in Elk River is generally greater than 50 feet and in several areas, the depth to <br />bedrock exeeds 200 feet, as shown on Figure 4.
