V. BOUNDARIES AND ACQUISITION COSTS
For this master plan, the proposed trail corridor is broken down into five segments that
illustrate the primary route and several alternative routes. It is proposed that if the
primary route cannot be constructed, the alternate routes will be considered; however,
most of the alternates are intended to be additional trail locations, to interconnect with
other existing and proposed trails.
Segment 1 -Appendix A, Sheets i , 2 & 3 of 8
The primary route for Segment 1 is approximately four miles in length. It begins
at the Anoka County/Sherburne County line and ends at the west end of
Mississippi West Regional Park. This trail segment will include a 10 foot
bituminous trail south of and adjacent to the Highway 10 right-of-way until
Bowers Drive NW where it will then be routed through an agricultural field and
wooded area. From there it will travel along the south side of 142"d Avenue
NW in the existing road right of way. This segment of trail will require
approximately 75,000 SF in trail easement acquisition at a cost of
approximately $175,000. Approximately 13,050 LF crosses agricultural fields
or open space. In these areas, Anoka County proposes that as the land is
developed, the trail could be required as part of the development with little cost
to the city or the county.
Segment 1 has an important alternate. The route through the agricultural field,
as an extension of Riverdale Drive, could also be an important connection to the
existing trail along Riverdale Drive. Riverdale Drive could have a trail along its
entire length in the future, which would be very convenient and useful to that
entire area after development.
