Kiver MEMORANDUM TO: Energy City Commission FROM: Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator DATE: November I6, 2005 SUBJECT: Staff Comments for Energy City Website Consultants Attached in your packet is a memo from Heidi Steinmetz, Asst. Director of Economic Development regarding the Energy City website redesign. Heidi contacted three web site designers and was asked to answer some questions. The questions the designers asked are listed on the memo from Heidi. Staff and Vance decided to go through the questions and give their opinion. The following is what our thoughts are for the website in the order they are asked on the memo from Heidi: • We like that there is a website but we don't like the lack of information and images throughout the website. We also think the colors need to be changed. • The existing content should be re-thought, edited and new information should be added. • The intent is to have visitors return to the site monthly. • The target audience should be energy-related businesses and the public. • The target audience will want to find out information on how to set-up a tour; what type of incentives the city can provide a business if they locate here (possibly a link to the EDA website). • The stakeholders of the site are the ECC and residents of Elk River. • The ECC and staff will be looking at the results and be accountable. • The ECC and EDA should be willing to invest in building a successful site.
