I Ieritage Preservation Commission June 10, 2004 Page 2 completed and each member received a copy of the report. Dr. Richard Rothaus presented the report to the City Council on June 7, 2004. This project will be featured at the Preservation Conference in St. Cloud on September 23 & 24, 2004. There will also be an article in the magazine "Minnesota Archaeology". The second part of the project has begun and many items have been recovered on the surface at the Houlton property. MOVED BY COMMISSIONER LUNDBERG AND SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER GONGOLL TO ACCEPT THE REPORT. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. 6. Ut~date on 2004 SHPO Grant The grant has been approved. HPC Chair Cindy Olson signed the Agreement. Discuss May 8 "Archaeolog~~ Dam According to Commissioner Olson: "It was a blast!" Commissioner Pouti suggested that next year the schools be informed and possibly discuss it with teachers to be a requirement to attend. It was also suggested that it should be hosted at a more visible location. Commissioner Olson will write thank you letters to First National Bank and GRE Printing for the photos that were displayed at downtown businesses the week of the event. 8. Discuss Establishing Local Historic Districts Commissioner Kragness provided the Committee with information on establishing a local historic district. It was suggested that this be brought up with Michele McPherson, Director of Planning. Discuss HPC Attendance at Historic Preservation Conference in St. Cloud on September 23 and 24; 2004 Steve informed the Committee that it is important for all to attend the Conference since Elk River's project will be highlighted. 10. Discuss Arrow Building Center Redevelopment Conceit Steve informed the Committee that this project has been withdrawn. 11. Budget Report The HPC discussed the budget and decided to increase the amount of money for subscriptions to $700 for a total of $9,700. MOVED BY COMMISSIONER LUNDBERG AND SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER DWYER TO APPROVE THE BUDGET. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. 12. Discuss City of Elk River's 2004 Oxcart Membership in Sherburne County Historical Society The Committee discussed whether or not to continue this membership and it was decided that they would. This is the highest level of support to the Sherburne County Historical Society for on-going operations.
