ver <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Tim Simon, on behalf of the Fleet Committee <br />DATE: January 12, 2009 <br />SUBJECT: Police Squad Purchases <br />On January 5, 2009, the Fleet Committee reviewed the 2009 equipment listing and has <br />decided to delay over $250,000 in 2009 equipment purchases until after July 1 and every <br />other purchase until some certainty is provided in regards to LGA. Although the equipment <br />replacement fund has a number of funding sources and does not directly receive LGA, the <br />Committee felt that it was in the best interest to delay any purchases until later in 2009 <br />except for the police squad cars and the grooming snowmobile which was approved on <br />April 7, 2008. <br />The Committee felt due to the condition, mileage, maintenance, and time it takes from order <br />to receiving the cars (90 - 180 days) the cars warrant being approved at this time. <br />The Committee is also reviewing the potential increases to some of the purchases as a result <br />of expiring state contracts and new ones being awarded. Fox example, the tandem axle truck <br />related state contract expires on January 31, 2009 and we are getting estimates to see what <br />type of increases may exist in the new contract. <br />
