The attached proclamation will formalize Elk River's participation in <br />Minnesota Manufacturer's Week. <br />Background/Discussion <br />For the past several years the EDA, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, has recognized Elk <br />River manufacturers annually during Minnesota Manufacturer's Week. The attached flyer highlights the <br />recognition event to be held Tuesday, October 21, 2008. The event will include a tour of one of Elk <br />River's manufacturers, Classic Acrylics, and aluncheon/presentation from Jim Mecklenburg, the Project <br />Lead the Way Program Director for the MN Center for Engineering and Manufacturing Center for <br />Excellence. Project Lead the Way is anot-for-profit organization that promotes pre-engineering courses <br />for middle and high school students. PLTW forms partnerships with public schools, higher education <br />institutions, and the private sector to increase the quantity and quality of engineers and engineering <br />technologists graduating from our educational system. <br />To show appreciation of Elk River's manufacturing community, the local manufacturers have been <br />invited to attend the event and luncheon compliments of the EDA.
