~/ <br />Elk REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />River <br />To Item Number <br />Ci Council 5.2. <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Communi Develo ment Se tember 15, 2008 erem Barnhart, Plannin Mana er <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Request by Janet Adams for Rezoning from R1c (Single Family <br />Residential) to a Commercial Rezoning (to be determined: C1 or Reviewed by <br />C2), Case No. ZC 08-01 -Public Hearing <br />Action Requested <br />Rezone the property to C- 2 Office Commercial to allow those uses, including personal service <br />establishments. <br />The Planning Commission recommends denial of the zone change, but recommends the City Council <br />initiate an ordinance amendment that would allow this type of use. <br />Summary <br />The applicant is requesting rezoning approval to change the property at 931 Main Street from R-1c to C- <br />2, to allow her proposed crafting business, in many ways similar to a bed and breakfast. <br />Planning Commission Discussion <br />Although the Planning Commission understood the proposed use and felt it was largely compatible with <br />the given neighborhood, the Commission was very concerned with allowing all commercial uses that <br />would be allowed in the C-2 district ultimately recommending denial of the proposed zone change, but <br />recommending the Council initiate a text amendment that would allow the use. <br />Public Comment <br />There were several comments made during the public hearing, as well as calls before the meeting. <br />Residents voiced their concerns regarding the future commercial uses of the building and of the lack of <br />control of preserving the building.
