Elk River City Council Meeting <br />January 24, 2000 <br /> <br />Page 4 <br /> <br />6.1. Update on Community Recreation Orqanization <br /> <br />Charlie Blesener and Michel Bergh updated those present on issues involving <br />Community Education and Community Recreation including programming <br />opportunities and building space concerns. A general discussion took place <br />regarding fees for use of school facilities. <br /> <br />6.2. Update on Chan.qes in Pollinq Locations for the 2000 Election <br /> <br />Dr. Flannery indicated that the School District and the city have worked together to <br />change the polling location from the senior high school to the Ivan Sand School. <br /> <br />6.3. Discuss Traffic and Student Parkinq Issues <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding parking issues at the Oak Knoll parking lot on Proctor <br />Avenue. There was a consensus that a joint powers agreement would be drafted <br />authorizing the police to enforce no parking at the Oak Knoll parking lot. <br /> <br />6.4. Discussion on Needs for a Community Center Facility <br /> <br />Dr. Flannery noted that the school district has identified a need for space for <br />Community Education, ECFE and ECSE. Charlie Blesener indicated that a study has <br />been done regarding the possibility of working together with the city on a joint <br />facility to be used by the school district and the City of Elk River for a community or <br />family education center. There was a consensus that both groups were in favor of <br />working together towards some type of joint community center facility. There was <br />also a consensus of the City Council that the city must identify the uses the city <br />would like to see in this type of a facility to serve the city of Elk River citizens. The <br />City Council indicated that it would work on putting together this list and then <br />meet again with the school district to discuss this issue. <br /> <br />6.5. Other Business <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding the cost to repair the pool at Vandenberge School. <br />Discussion was also held regarding the incidents that have taken place with the <br />students attending hockey games. <br /> <br />Members of the Lions Club were present and indicated that they were willing to <br />help the school district and the city if requested. The school district and the city <br />thanked the Lions for the help they have already provided. <br /> <br />10.
