MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER CITY COUNCIL BOARD OF REVIEW HELD AT THE SHERBURNE COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2001 Members Present: Members Absent: Staff Present: County Staff Present: Vice Mayor Dietz, Councilmembers Kuester, Motin, and Tveite Mayor Kdinzing City Clerk Sandra Peine John Cullen, Chief Deputy Assessor, Assessors Greg Olson and John Gustafson Call Meeting To Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, Vice Mayor Dietz called the meeting of the Elk River City Council was called to order at 6:00 p.m. Chief Deputy Assessor informed those present that the Council will act as the local Board of Review to hear complaints on property evaluations for the 2001 assessment payable in the year 2002. John noted that there was an overall increase of 5% was applied to all Elk River property. Charles Burgess - 75-570-0134, L17, B1, Country. Crossing Mr. Burgess indicated that his home is appraised higher than his neighbor who has the same house as he does. He felt the homes should be appraised the same. The assessor noted that the records show that Mr. Burgess' house is 47 square feet larger than his neighbor's house which would account for the higher appraisal rate. VICE MAYOR DIETZ MOVED TO HAVE THE HOUSE REMEASURED WITH THE RESULTS BROUGHT BACK TO THE CITY COUNCIL AND THAT THE COUNCIL WOULD MAKE DECISION AT THAT TIME. COUNCILMEMBER TVEITE SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. 2. Ernie Toth - 75-103-4200 Mr. Toth noted that his property value increased from 162,600 to 170,000. He indicated that he did not feel that he should be taxed on the barn and silo, as they are no longer used. The assessor noted that the increase in taxes was based on the overall increase for the city and that the barn and silo were not taxed. The Council took no action.
