RNC Motors Operation Plan
July 7`ll, 2008
Multi-agency motorcycle officers will be assigned to the transportation portion of the
RNC event. All officers will work a 12 hour shift from Sept. 1, to Sept. 4, 2008. Hours
will be from 1100 to 2300 hrs.
RNC Motor Officer Duties:
Motor Officers along with traffic car officers will report to a designated area at the MSP
airport. The exact location of this area will be provided at a later time. The motor officers
along with traffic unit officers will be responsible for escorting buses along designated
routes to various locations around the metro area. Buses will be departing the staging
areas in groups to the different hotels scattered across the metro area. Escorts will be
accomplished with four officer motorcycle teams per escort and afollow-up squad car.
Upon completion of the initial escorting, motor officers will then spend the remainder of
their shift, patrolling the designated routes of travel to clear any congestion or blockage
that may occur. Motor officers will respond to any blockage quickly and contact the
command post with any type of resource needed to clear the blockage. (i.e. tow trucks,
MMF; etc.)
This will be a large endeavor for St. Paul motors to cover; we are requesting a firm
commitment of officers and equipment (motors) from all metro area departments
that have motor units.
Please contact Sgt. Curt Sandell by email (preferred) or phone call by July 11tH,
2008 with the .names and contact information of the officers your department can
commit to this task. We are asking that the officers you commit to this task attend
all upcoming motor training with our department for July and August. The exact
dates and location of this training will be sent to your agency as soon as they .are
determined.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sgt.
