Ach, City Planner~b~_~ February 5, 1996 Consider Sending Two Planning Commission Members to National Conference Background At the January 22, 1996, City Council meeting, the Council approved sending one Planning Commission member to the National Planning Conference. The City Council requested additional information regarding the conference before approving a second commission member to attend the conference. In my memo to the City Council on January 22, I mistakenly represented that the 1996 Planning Commission budget provided for one Planning Commission member to attend the National Conference with any additional members needing Council approval. In actuality, since 1994 the Planning Commission budget has included expenditures for two commission members to attend the National Conference. However, even though two commission members have been budgeted each year, it wasn't until last year that two commission members actually attended the National Conference. Summary of Conference This year's conference is being held in Orlando, Florida during April 13-17. The conference has always provided a broad cross-section of topics for both the professional and citizen planner. In fact, the conference has specific sessions and breakfast meetings for Planning Commission members. In addition to the typical conference sessions held at the hotel, there is also an entire selection of mobile workshops. These workshops are either walking or bus tours of specific sites to experience first hand "real life" planning issues.
