E1
iver Date:

Police Department

Memorandum

Michele McPherson, Planning Director
Thomas D. Zerwas, Chief of Police '~ .....
Bruce West, Fire Chief f~ ~/1/ ,
January 9, 2001 ~J~fffV~ ~)/

Subject: PRELIMINARY PLAT FOR HILLSIDE
ESTATES EIGHTH ADDITON

It has been brought to our attention that residents who live on Dodge
Street, just south of the proposed Hillside Estates Eighth Addition, are
requesting that Dodge Street be a cul-de-sac. Their request would
create two (2) cul-de-sacs; one (1) at the northern edge of Hillside
First Addition on Dodge Street and one (1) at the southern edge of
Hillside Eighth Addition on Dodge Street. Both cul-de-sacs would
more than likely butt up against each other.

From a public safety perspective, this doesn't make sense. As we
indicated on Auburn Street several months ago, if it were a cul-de-sac,
response time would be increased if public safety officials were south
of 196th on Auburn and had to drive all the way around via Highway
169 or Evans Avenue for an emergency.

This same scenario would hold tree for Hillside Eighth in regards to
Dodge Street. We would recommend that the City, with input from
City Engineer Terry Maurer, consider the placement of traffic calming
barriers or use of other traffic engineering methods to deal with
neighborhood concerns.

This recommendation may not sit well with some individuals.
However, we must look out for the "public safety" of all of our
citizens. If you have any questions in regards to this memo, contact
the police or f~re chief.

TZ/kma

13065 0r0n0 Parkway · P.O.
