Memo to Mayor & City Council/CU 00-43 <br />January 16, 2001 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />Analysis <br /> <br />In order to complete the reconstruction at VandenBerge and the high school, <br />approximately 1/3 of the classrooms will need to be closed to the students. <br />Temporary trailers of 24 ft. x 70 ft. will be located on what is now the faculty <br />parking area to the north of the high school. These trailers will serve as <br />temporary classrooms for approximately two years while construction is occurring <br />within the school. <br /> <br />The trailers will be required to meet fire code separation requirements which <br />means that the trailers will need to be spaced a minimum of 20 feet apart. They <br />will also need to meet ADA accessibility, heating and electrical requirements. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff recommends that the Planning Commission recommend approval of the <br />interim use permit request to allow temporary classrooms until June of 2003 with <br />the following condition: <br /> <br />1. The trailers shall meet the requirements of the Chief Building Official. <br /> <br />Planninq Commission Action <br /> <br />The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing regarding the issue at its <br />December 27, 2000 meeting. No one spoke for or against the proposal. The <br />Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the request to the <br />City Council with one additional condition: <br /> <br />The School District shall work with the Fire Chief to maintain adequate <br />emergency vehicle access at all times. <br /> <br />City Council Recommendation <br /> <br />Staff and the Planning Commission recommend that the City Council approve the <br />Interim Use Permit request to allow the use of temporary trailers until June of <br />2003 with the following conditions: <br /> <br />'1. THE TRAILERS SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CHIEF <br /> BUILDING OFFICIAL. <br /> <br />THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SHALL WORK WITH THE FIRE CHIEF TO <br />MAINTAIN ADEQUATE EMERGENCY VEHICLE ACCESS AT ALL <br />TIMES, <br /> <br />S:~PLANNING~vllCHMC\CCREPRTS\CU00-43.DOC <br /> <br /> <br />
