HILL SIDE CIi-¥ PARK <br />IJiilside City Park is ~)-acre park located south of Count), Road 12 and east of Twin Laker <br />Boulevard. This park used to be the City's landfill until it was closed in 1972. The park is heavily wood- <br />ed and now boast some of the best mountain biking in the metropolitan area. With devation climbs <br />and drops of up to 80 feet, it will provide a challenge to the serious mountain biker. There are over 6 <br />miles of mountain bike trails that were constructed and are maintained by the Minnesota BLAST (Build <br />I ~and Access Share the Trail) group. Amenities that will be added to the park include a paved parking <br />area, picnic area, and benches. Oak Knoll Athletic Complex, located west of <br />I'roctor Avenue. This complex includes two soccer <br />fields, three baseball/softball fields, and the High <br />School's Varsity Field. <br />2. Orono Athletic Complex, located west of Lake <br />()rono at Gary Street. This complex includes four <br />lighted softball fields, scoreboards, bleachers, picnic <br />tables, and a concession stand. A fifth field, Kuss, is <br />h)cated on the shore of Lake Orono. <br />3. Youth Athletic Complex, located south of 165th Avenue and east of Highway 10 and the <br />Burlington Northern railroad tracks. This complex includes four baseball fields with two under <br />construction. The City and the youth athletic associations are working to improve the complex <br />through the addition of bleachers, lights, a concession stand, shelters, and picnic tables. On the east side of the trail is Top of the World park. Together they total 268 acres of woods, prairies and wetlands. The park includes parking, paved <br />biking trails and unpaved walking and hiking trails. In the wintertime these two parks and the trail become some of the best cross country ski trails in the entire <br />metropolitan area providing a challenge for the serious skiier and at the same time trails for the beginner. It is also a home to an Olympic Biathalon training <br />course and the ski trails are well maintained by the local ski club. Family picnics, natural interpretation, walking, rollerblading and snowshoeing are just a few of <br />the many things to do here. This park is also a favorite site for many local fundraisers, such as the annual Crop Walk. <br /> <br /> <br />
