THE MOTION <br />CARRIED 5-O. <br /> <br />4. Joint Meeting with Sherburne County. Board of Commissioners <br /> <br />County. Representatives Present: Commissioner Wergin, Administrator Brian Benson, <br />Commissioner Engstrom, Commissioner Leonard, Sheriff Anderson, Commissioner <br />Nagorski, Dave Becket, Court Services, Ken Ebel, Social Services Director <br /> <br />YMCA Representatives: Chad Lanners, Tom LaSalle, Casey Scott <br /> <br />Sheriff Brace Anderson addressed the Council and the Commissioners regarding the <br />proposal to partner with the YMCA. He indicated that there is the potential to expand the <br />jail facility to increase the number of inmates. He noted that this would bring in additional <br />revenue. Sheriff Anderson proposed contracting with the YMCA for programs and services, <br />which would be a cost savings to the County. <br /> <br />Ken Ebel, Director of Social Services talked about prevention services offered by the <br />YMCA. He indicated that if the County partnered with the YMCA in this area, out of home <br />placement costs would be reduced. <br /> <br />Dave Becket, Court Services, indicated that the County would help reach younger families <br />through YMCA programs. He indicated that the YMCA programs would be a great resource <br />to the entire community. <br /> <br />Chad Lanners talked about the Founders Committee that was started in Elk River about two <br />years ago. He also talked about the number of volunteers from the community that are <br />currently working with the YMCA to move the project forward. Mayor Klinzing introduced <br />the members of the Founders Committee that were present. <br /> <br />Discussion was held regarding the site. Sheriff Anderson indicated that his proposal requires <br />that the YMCA be built close to the government center. Councilmember Motin indicated he <br />would like to see the YMCA built closer to a location that would be more accessible to youth <br />such as the property the City has offered near Wal-Mart. Commissioner Engstrom indicated <br />that a location near the government center would be more centralized for residents <br />throughout Sherbume County. <br /> <br /> <br />
