THE MOTION CARRIED 5-O. 4. Joint Meeting with Sherburne County. Board of Commissioners County. Representatives Present: Commissioner Wergin, Administrator Brian Benson, Commissioner Engstrom, Commissioner Leonard, Sheriff Anderson, Commissioner Nagorski, Dave Becket, Court Services, Ken Ebel, Social Services Director YMCA Representatives: Chad Lanners, Tom LaSalle, Casey Scott Sheriff Brace Anderson addressed the Council and the Commissioners regarding the proposal to partner with the YMCA. He indicated that there is the potential to expand the jail facility to increase the number of inmates. He noted that this would bring in additional revenue. Sheriff Anderson proposed contracting with the YMCA for programs and services, which would be a cost savings to the County. Ken Ebel, Director of Social Services talked about prevention services offered by the YMCA. He indicated that if the County partnered with the YMCA in this area, out of home placement costs would be reduced. Dave Becket, Court Services, indicated that the County would help reach younger families through YMCA programs. He indicated that the YMCA programs would be a great resource to the entire community. Chad Lanners talked about the Founders Committee that was started in Elk River about two years ago. He also talked about the number of volunteers from the community that are currently working with the YMCA to move the project forward. Mayor Klinzing introduced the members of the Founders Committee that were present. Discussion was held regarding the site. Sheriff Anderson indicated that his proposal requires that the YMCA be built close to the government center. Councilmember Motin indicated he would like to see the YMCA built closer to a location that would be more accessible to youth such as the property the City has offered near Wal-Mart. Commissioner Engstrom indicated that a location near the government center would be more centralized for residents throughout Sherbume County.
