By setting standards for tree removal and tree preservation the ordinance
attempts to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the residents as well as preserve the city's
rural character.

Issues

Two significant issues will have to be considered while looking at the proposed tree
preservation ordinance. The first is a policy decision regarding whether the City Council feels
that the city should be more involved with regulating the removal of trees. The second issue
is budgetary and involves staffing for administering and enforcing the ordinance. There will
also be increased costs for developers and residents that have to prepare a tree preservation
plan.
