Erosion and Sedimentation <br /> <br />Give the acreage to be graded or excavated and the cubic yards of soil to be moved: <br /> <br />Acres: It is anticipated that approximately 51 acres of the 70-acre site will be graded. <br /> <br />Cubic Yards: On-site grading: 165,000 cubic yards <br />(Note: the anticipated cubic yards of grading is a preliminar7 estimate that is subject to change) <br /> <br />Describe any' steep slopes or highly erodible soils and identi_~.' them on the site map. Describe any erosion and <br />sedimentation control measures to be used during and after project construction. <br /> <br />According to the USDAJNRCS Highly Erodible Soil Map Unit List for Sherburne County (July, 1994), <br />there are no highly erodible soils located within the project site. Surface topography is relatively level, <br />with elevations ranging from 880 to about 902 (Exhibit 5). The 2-foot contour topographic mapping <br />indicates small areas of 9 to 12 percent slopes exist in the area leading down to the wetland edge. <br />Most slopes on the project site are 7 percent or flatter. <br /> <br />Because project construction will involve disturbance of more than five acres of land, application for <br />coverage under the NPDES General Permit for Construction Activities will be submitted to the <br />Minnesota Pollution Control Agency prior to initiating earthwork on the site. This permit requires that <br />Best Management Practices (BMPs) be used to control erosion and that all erosion controls be <br />inspected after each rainfall exceeding 0.1 inch of precipitation. Erosion control practices to be <br />considered for use on the site include: <br /> 1. Construction of temporary sediment basins in the locations proposed for stormwater ponding, <br /> and development of these basins for permanent use following construction. <br /> 2. Silt fence and other erosion control features installed prior to initiation of earthwork and <br /> maintained until viable turf or ground cover is established on exposed areas. <br /> 3. Periodic street cleaning and installation of a rock construction entrance to reduce tracking of <br /> dirt onto public streets. <br /> <br /> 4. Stabilization of exposed soils within 14 calendar days of completion of rough grading unless <br /> otherwise directed by the project engineer. <br /> 5. Energy dissipation, such as riprap, installed at storm sewer outfalls. <br /> 6. Use of cover crops, native seed mixes, sod, and landscaping to stabilize exposed surface <br /> soils after final, grading. <br /> <br />Erosion control plans will be reviewed and approved by the City of Elk River prior to project <br />construction. It is anticipated that potential adverse erosion and sedimentation impacts will be limited <br />primarily to short-term effects, and therefore are not expected to affect water quality in the wetland <br />over the long term. With the implementation of the above BMPs, potential adverse effects from <br />construction-related sediment and erosion on water quality will be minimized to the extent practical. <br /> <br />W Westwood Professional Sen/ices, Inc.
