The square occupied the northern
edge of the wedge-shaped block; the Blanchett Hotel was at the southern edge. The
space was not improved until the early twentieth century; photographs of 1917 show
that the square had a few large mature trees but it does not appear to have been formally
landscaped. A small wooden pavilion fronted on Main Street. The square is now a
surface parking lot.

Significance

Jackson Square was locally significant as the central public space in Elk River and the
focus of many community celebrations and events. These functions ceased when it was
converted to a parking lot.

Elk River Historic Contexts and Phase II Downtown Commercial Area Study
63
