City <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />Item <br /> <br />3.3. <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent <br /> <br />September I I, 2002 <br /> <br />Wage Increase for Don Karstens <br /> <br />Don started working for the City in May of 2001 as a part-time summer worker at $8.69 per <br />hour. At the 9-17-01 meeting, the City Coundl approved a pay increase to Pay Grade 2, <br />Step C or $11.08 per hour. <br /> <br />For the July 1, 2002 annual employee evaluation Don showed a high level of performance. <br />To utilize his many skills I have assigned him projects that include: carpentry, concrete <br />forming and finishing, irrigation installation, park shelter renovation, building maintenance at <br />city buildings and other duties that are considered maintenance I level. <br /> <br />I recommended promotion to maintenance I at that time but because Don is not full time, <br />his promotion was not included with the other personnel changes. <br /> <br />I have discussed this issue with City Administrator Pat Klaers and Finance Director Loft <br />Johnson and we would like to continue his present work schedule of 32 hours per week and <br />32 to 36 weeks per year with the following wage change. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />City Council approve a wage increase for Don Karstens from Pay Grade 2, Step C to Pay <br />Grade 8, Step A ($12.81/hr) retroactive to July 1, 2002 keeping his present schedule of 32 <br />hours. <br /> <br />PH:dl <br /> <br /> <br />
