Information <br />ver <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: City Council <br />FROM: Tina Allard, City Clerk <br />DATE: December 17, 2007 <br />SUBJECT: Board and Commission Policy Update <br />At the December 3, 2007 Council meeting, the Council asked for the Board and <br />Commission Policy to be updated to distinguish between whether or not the city needed to <br />advertise for mayoral appointments versus the council appointments. <br />The current policy addresses this issue under "Commission Organization and Procedures," <br />Number 2 and Number 6. <br />2. Notification of Opening. Board and commission expirations and vacancies will be <br />adverrised in the Elk River Star News, "The Current" newsletter, and the city web <br />page. <br />6. Terms be ig nag in Tanuary. HRA, EDA, and Library Board terms run from January <br />1 to December 31 in any given year. The Mayor, upon approval of the Council, shall <br />make appointments to the HRA, EDA, and Library Board. The term of office for <br />the HRA is five years, six years for resident members of the EDA, and three years <br />for members of the Library Board as provided in the governing ordinance and is <br />designated by the Council at the time of the appointment. If the appointment is to <br />fill a vacancy for an unexpired term, the appointment is for the balance of the term. <br />The Mavor shall decide whether or not to advertise for these~ositions <br />If the Council doesn't like the wording in the current policy, please let staff know and we <br />will bring it back with changes at a later date. <br />
